Marine Forecast: Northerly 10 knots, rising to 15 knots late morning. Sea slight. Morning and evening cloud, otherwise fine.
In celebration of the EBYMBC Centenary we dressed Halo in bunting the day before and left Chaffers Marina with Jim and Tunch at 1030 hrs. Motored around to Evans Bay club and tied up at the wharf next to the club rooms in time for the official opening day speeches and raising the club flags etc. The course was announced with a 1310 hrs Warning Signal for Race Start.
The conditions were perfect for a great day’s sailing!
Julie and Tina joined us on Halo at Evans Bay and after a few practice tacks we were off with Murray on helm as we did multiple tacks north chasing the fast boats towards the first mark at Pt Halswell. (In the excitement Geoff forgot to start the tracker on the OpenCPN so the chart below only shows the route starting after our first rounding of Pt Halswell). After a brisk beam reach across the top on the harbour doing 6.5 kts we raised the spinnaker on the fairly sheltered stretch from Balena Bay back to Shoal Pile getting up to 6 kts. We then tacked back up to Pt Halswell and back again crossing the Finish Line at 1443 hrs.
After dropping Murray, Tina and Julie off at Evans Bay, Tunch and Geoff motored back to Chaffers Marina.
