Somes Island with Prendevilles – 10 Jan 2017

Crew: Jo, Josh, Ruby, Maaike, Geoff

Forecast: Southerly 10 knots easing to variable 5 knots early afternoon.

After completing crew instruction and safety briefing we departed Chaffers Marina 1051 hrs. First time on Halo for Josh so after giving him some practise time on the tiller motoring round , we hoisted the mainsail and the number 3 Genoa and sailed off across the harbour. Maaike put out the fishing line with a spinner and quite quickly snared a largish kahawai! Unfortunately it got away as she was reeling it in.

Arrived Somes Island at 1202 hrs and dropped the anchor in the north bay sheltering from the southerly. Had lunch and Ruby and Maike took the dinghy out for some fun and a swim.

Weighed anchor and departed at 1324 hrs, rounded the island and then made good progress running downwind with beam reach back to port. Josh did an excellent job steering. A natural!

Arrived back at Chaffers at 1430 hrs.
